The Šluknovské stezky form a network of 63 km of signposted local hiking trails. They are primarily intended for hiking; most routes can also be used by mountain bike.
Geographical Location
At the northern edge of Šluknov, on the 373 m-high Židovský vrch hill, lies the Židovský vrch lookout point. From there, visitors have a direct view of the town's buildings, the Šluknov heritage conservation zone and the town's monuments. Tourist and cycling maps, tourist cards and badges, various brochures, publications and souvenirs are available at the lookout point.
Culture
The Šluknov Stations of the Cross was created between 1738 and 1756. It comprises 14 stations, 12 niche chapels and two brick chapels, and ends at the top of the hill at the Calvary Chapel. The Křížový vrch complex belongs to Šluknov's urban heritage conservation zone; the structures of the Stations of the Cross are protected monuments.
The single-nave Baroque Church of St Wenceslas in Šluknov was built on the site of a 12th-century chapel and contains High Baroque statues. Numerous Baroque sandstone statues can be seen throughout the town and along the access roads. On the Stezka sakrálními památkami, visitors to Šluknov encounter crosses, chapels, sandstone statues and Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses.
History and Events
The first reports of the Schweidrich silver mine near Šluknov date back to the 15th century. Šluknov Castle was built by Arnošt ze Šlejnic between 1566 and 1573 and is surrounded by a reconstructed English-style park. The Zámecké slavnosti take place in Šluknov every year on the last weekend of June at Šluknov Castle and in the castle park.
