Nové Krecany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A green-marked hiking trail starts on the outskirts of Nové Křečany and leads towards the source of the Mandava and to Hrazený, the highest peak of the Šluknov Uplands.

Nature and Views

Hrazený is 610 m high and is considered the highest peak of the Šluknov Uplands. At elevation point 608 on its summit plateau, there is a viewpoint overlooking Mikulášovice and the border ridge of the Lusatian Mountains to the southwest. From the Volský kámen viewpoint, you can see the Dymník lookout tower, Rumburk, and distant peaks of the Lusatian Mountains.

The Valdek–Nové Křečany–Brtníky route includes a viewpoint near the sources of the Mandava in Nové Křečany and is classified as moderately difficult. The source of the Mandava is a stop along the route; there are benches with tables and a fire pit there. The actual sources of the Mandava are inaccessible because they are located on private property.

Hiking and Trail Access

The hiking trail is 12 km long and is marked on Mapy.cz and on KČT Map No. 13, “Bohemian Switzerland and the Šluknov Region.” It can be reached from the Brtníky or Staré Křečany railway stations on line 084, with an approach of approximately 3 km. The Varnsdorf–Rumburk–Dolní Poustevna bus route can be used to access the trail; one possible stop is Staré Křečany, U Slov. lípy.

Cycling

The Mandavská cycling route is approximately 42 km long, starts at the source of the Mandava in Staré Křečany, and ends in Žitava (Germany), with connections to other cycle paths in Saxony. It uses existing roads and local paths marked by the Club of Czech Tourists, is considered easy to moderately difficult, and is suitable for families with children.

The cycling tour “Along the Mandava River to Großschönau” runs from Brtníky to the source of the Mandava, which lies between Brtníky, Panský, and Nové Křečany.

History and Vernacular Architecture

In the Early Middle Ages, the so-called Salt Route ran through Staré and Nové Křečany. It was a trade route from the Baltic region southwards, used for the salt trade. Nové Křečany also had a local tradition of Sparterie handicrafts, producing utilitarian and decorative objects from wood, bast, and wood shavings.

Picturesque Upper Lusatian houses and half-timbered houses have been preserved throughout Staré Křečany, predominantly dating from the 17th and 18th centuries and extensively clad in slate. A regional travel route lists a number of Upper Lusatian and half-timbered houses in Staré and Nové Křečany as attractions.

The Kleesinlův kříž near the sources of the Mandava in Nové Křečany was reconstructed in 2011. The Kleesinlův kříž is a cast-iron cross dating from the 19th century, mounted on a granite pedestal near a recreational destination at the sources of the Mandava by Staré Křečany.
