Snědovice lies in the valley of the Obrtka stream, in a traditionally agricultural landscape. In place of the ruined fortress, Jan Baltazar Clary ze Sperberbach had a new Baroque château built here, which was completed around 1688.
Architectural Heritage
Snědovice Château is a one- and two-storey building with an inner courtyard, tall pilasters on the château façade, a rusticated stone gate, and windows with triangular and segmental pediments. Today, it houses a social care institution.
In the centre of Snědovice stands the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Built in 1856, the Marian Chapel has rounded corners, a round-arched entrance, and a circular window in the gable with a bell-shaped superstructure.
After 1555, the Renaissance Velký mlýn mill was built in Snědovice. It preserves an art-historically valuable commemorative plaque featuring a wolf leaping out of a forest as its heraldic motif and the Czech inscription “Waclaw z Quitkowa, Mandalena z Hrussova 1555”.
The Chapel of Saint Procopius in the municipality of Snědovice has a rectangular nave, a polygonal presbytery, a side sacristy, and a main façade extended by a risalit with a tower superstructure.
In Střížovice, a district of the municipality of Snědovice, there is a protected rural dwelling dating from 1870 in the folk architecture style. The well-preserved large residential building from the second half of the 19th century features unusually rich decoration and late Classicist characteristics of rural construction.
The preserved cultural monuments in Snědovice include the wooden log houses with house numbers 46 and 56, as well as the houses designated če. 7, 14, and 17, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
History and Rural Heritage
The traditional livelihoods of the population of Snědovice included agriculture, hop growing, fruit growing, livestock farming, and beekeeping. The historic Snědovická cesta led from Mělník via Liběchov, past the present-day Hraběcí and Marian chapels, to Radouň; there, a branch turned off towards Snědovice.
Landscape
The Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area includes the municipality of Snědovice in the Ústí nad Labem Region. In addition to Snědovice Château, a small English-style park was laid out in the first half of the 19th century. In Snědovice Château Park, stone walls delimiting individual terraces or lawns have been preserved, along with several surviving solitary trees in front of the château.
