Trnovany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Trnovany combines documented local history, a winemaking tradition, and a protected natural area. The northern half of the village lies in the CHKO České středohoří, while historic paths, former buildings, and local events reveal further facets of the village's character.
History and Village Character
Trnovany is first documented in a deed from 1057 confirming the foundation of the Chapter of St Stephen in Litoměřice. An old market road from Litoměřice to Úštěk ran through the valley between Trnovany and Podviní. The fortress of Trnovany was burned down during the Thirty Years' War; the former fortress was demolished around 1797. The fire of 1808 destroyed the last surviving parts of the former Trnovany estate. Several rural buildings with half-timbered upper floors have been preserved in Podviní.
Winemaking and Local Festivals
Historically, wine, fruit, hops, and lentils were grown in Trnovany. A local vineyard gave its name to Pražská zahrada. Trnovanské Vinobraní is a regularly held local harvest festival; its fourth edition is scheduled for 12 September 2026. At this festival, wines and Burčák from local vineyards, including those in Trnovany, are tasted. Another regularly held local event in Trnovany is Vítání léta.
Natural Area
The northern half of Trnovany lies in the CHKO České středohoří and is characterized there by protected forest-steppe to steppe communities recognized as protected natural values. The area of the CHKO České středohoří in Trnovany is designated as Zone IV.
Connections and Wine Region
Road I/15 runs through Trnovany and connects Litoměřice with Česká Lípa. The Litoměřice Wine Trail passes through Litoměřice, which lies approximately 4 km from Trnovany. The area through which the Litoměřice Wine Trail runs is one of the richest in natural features and most attractive to tourists in the CHKO České středohoří.
