Podbořany: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Podbořany combines a distinctive historical heritage with a variety of places in the surrounding area and beyond. The Muzeum Podbořany is located in the former town hall, whose present-day Baroque appearance dates from 1751. The town’s history is complemented by churches, a water castle, a municipal circular route and the archaeologically significant Rubín Hill.
Culture
The Muzeum Podbořany is located in the former town hall at Dukelská 1. Its exhibitions include “Hlasy Čechů z Volyně”, which presents the history of the Volhynian Czech community, from its emigration from Austria-Hungary to the former Russian Empire, through its return to Czechoslovakia, to later developments. Accompanying texts, maps, numerous photographs and eyewitness recollections supplement the presentation. The “Geologie na Podbořansku” exhibition also includes the fossilised trunk of a horsetail tree discovered in the Podbořansko region.
In Hlubany, Podbořany, lies the Vodní tvrz Hlubany. The Gothic water castle dates from the second half of the 14th century and is surrounded by a moat. Podbořany is also home to Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla, a single-nave late Baroque Roman Catholic church with a tower in the western façade, built in 1781. Its organ was installed in June 1750.
Kostel Božího Spasitele is a Pseudo-Romanesque church from the beginning of the 20th century; it was consecrated on 9 November 1902. The Svatý Prokop monument and the Zřícenina Lina ruins are also located in the surroundings of Podbořany.
Landscape
Rubín Hill has been protected as a significant landscape feature since 2 September 1993. The mountain was inhabited for almost 4,000 years, from the Neolithic to the Iron Age, and is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in north-western Bohemia.
The hills of Rumplák and Valovský vrch are part of the immediate surroundings of Podbořany. The wider regional area includes the Zřícenina Pravda ruins and the U Svatého Gotharda church. The Prokopi Berg and Kolina mountains are also located nearby.
