Krásná Lípa: Holiday apartment between Bohemian Switzerland and the Lusatian Mountains

Krásná Lípa lies in a flat valley along the upper reaches of the Křinice, on the border between Bohemian Switzerland and the Lusatian Mountains. Landscape

From the town square of Krásná Lípa, paths lead to Kamenná Horka and Sněžná and onward into quiet beech forests. A nature trail runs through both parts of the town park; Oko Pond can be reached on a walk through the park. Basalt deposits are visible in the Horky area, pointing to the volcanic origin of Kamenná Horka. Cimrák Pond is a recreational area located immediately next to Krásná Lípa.

Well-preserved old cottages and timber-framed houses stand in the meadows around Kamenná Horka. The edges of the forests offer views of Krásná Lípa, the Lusatian Mountains with Jedlová, Vlčí hora and the forests of Bohemian Switzerland. The sparse remains of Krásný Buk Castle lie on a wooded hill above the northern edge of the Křinice valley.

Culture

The Church of St Mary Magdalene was rebuilt in the mid-18th century. A monumental staircase with statues and a large stone cross carved from a single stone leads to it from the square. The Bohemian Switzerland Museum is housed in the oldest building in the town's cadastral area, constructed after 1729, and presents exhibitions on the history of tourism as well as historical photographs of the town and its surroundings.

Krásná Lípa Town Park was laid out in 1888–1889 as a private park around the unique crypt of the industrialist Karl Dittrich's family. The Kögler Cross in Kamenná Horka dates from 1792 and has a double-sided design, with the same front facing both the road and the house. Krásný Buk Castle was conquered and destroyed on 15 October 1339 and was never rebuilt.

Experiences

Schindlerova pletárna in Krásná Lípa is an industrial knitting mill founded in 1854 that has operated continuously to this day and is described as the last still-functioning industrial knitting mill in the Czech Republic. It offers guided tours presenting its textile tradition; advance reservation and prepayment of the admission fee are required to participate.

The House of Bohemian Switzerland features the interactive exhibition “České Švýcarsko: život, tajemství, inspirace” as well as a panoramic projection with the film “Krajina tajemství”. Plšíkova Garden includes a water area, a pavilion, a butterfly meadow, a depiction of village life, a geological exhibition and other environmental education features. It is freely open to the public every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

At the MANA chocolate workshop on the town square of Krásná Lípa, visitors can work with chocolate themselves and then take home their own chocolate creations, such as a lollipop. The Bohemian Switzerland sports complex offers tennis courts, beach volleyball, mini-golf, a climbing wall, a children's playground and other leisure facilities. The Kögler Nature Trail has 39 stations with explanations in Czech and German.

Events

Pohádkový les and Staročeský jarmark take place in Krásná Lípa on the second Saturday in June each year. Bohemian Switzerland Day is held on the first weekend of September each year, with public accompanying events at the House of Bohemian Switzerland. The Sachsen Classic Rally takes place every August as a gathering of historic vehicles manufactured in the Czech Republic and abroad.
