Hlinná: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hlinná lies at the end of the valley of the Tlučeňský potok stream at the foot of the 545 m-high Hradiště hill. The location combines a clearly defined valley landscape with an area where basalt hills, rock formations and wide-ranging views are closely interconnected.

Landscape and Nature

The Hradiště natural monument is located on the mountain of the same name in the Litoměřice District; the area is administered by the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The Holý vrch u Hlinné Site of Community Importance includes the basalt hills of Hradiště, at 545 m above sea level, and Holý vrch, at 574 m. Both are remnants of a lava layer. On the western slope of Holý vrch are distinctive rock formations shaped by frost weathering, popularly known as “The Teacher and His Pupils.”

The Hradiště mountain features partly wooded areas, steppe meadows, rocky outcrops and scree slopes. The Holý vrch u Hlinné area is home to communities of rocks, rock steppes, scree slopes and dry grasslands, including stands of the critically endangered species open pasqueflower.

Hiking and Views

The summit of Hradiště can be reached from Hlinná via a yellow-marked hiking trail and offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding landscape. The Hlinná–Kamýk educational trail begins in Hlinná, heads towards Holý vrch, Velké hradiště and Plešivec mountain, and then returns. The Hlinná–Kamýk educational trail is approximately 10 km long; visitors can choose the order in which they visit the stops or walk only part of the route.

An observation tower stands on the summit of Varhošť, offering views of the České středohoří mountains and the course of the Elbe; the Elbe can be seen from there at eight points. Varhošť is associated with Kundratice, a district of Hlinná. The easy ascent to Varhošť follows the yellow trail from the saddle below Varhošť and is approximately 1.5 km long there and back.

Culture and History

Hlinná is first mentioned in 1337. Archaeological finds on the Hradiště and Kamýk mountains, approximately 1 km southeast of Hlinná, testify to the settlement of the municipality’s territory by Celtic tribes around the period from the 3rd to the 1st century BC.

The Slavnosti pastvin festival includes a market offering regional products. At the event, visitors can try traditional crafts in practice and see domestic and wild animals.
