Dlažkovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Dlažkovice lies at the foot of the Bohemian Central Uplands (České středohoří). Two ponds are located in the centre of the village, while the church, chateau and park define the historical character of the village.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Dlažkovice has been mentioned as a parish church since 1259. The protected ensemble comprises the church building, the bell tower and the surrounding wall. The Baroque church dates from the second half of the 17th century. A simple bell tower with Gothic features was built next to the church in the 16th century. Beside it stands a Baroque bell tower with old bells dating from the 15th and 17th centuries. Dlažkovice is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.
Until the land reform of 1924, Dlažkovice Chateau belonged to the Schönborn family. Its surviving form dates back to a Baroque reconstruction carried out between 1713 and 1717; today, the chateau is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Access to the chateau grounds is restricted because they are home to a children's residential facility with special schools.
Landscape and Park
South of the chateau extends Dlažkovice's elongated English landscape park. It includes an irregularly shaped pond. Parts of the park were converted into terraced vegetable gardens, while historic ornamental shrubs and trees survive as remnants.
Dlažkovice and neighbouring Podsedice are known for the mining of Bohemian garnets (pyropes). Another distinctive feature of the village is the route on which regular railway service was replaced by the tourist operation of the Švestková dráha.
Village Character
The former school building in Dlažkovice now houses a restaurant and tourist accommodation. A High Baroque statue of Saint Barbara stands on a plinth with a concrete base.
