Velešovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Velešovice lies in the valley of the Rakovec stream on its left bank. Between the sacred precinct, distinctive landscape features and historically shaped paths, a townscape emerges in which nature and culture are closely intertwined.
Culture
The Church of St Barbara is a High Baroque building dating from 1731–1732 and a significant landmark of the sacred precinct of Velešovice. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument.
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands in the village square. It was built in 1867 by residents of the municipality on the site of an earlier small chapel. The complex includes an originally Neoclassical chapel and a Neoclassical statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from 1803. Since 1993, a Mass has been celebrated there every year on 16 May, the feast day of St John of Nepomuk.
Southeast of Velešovice, above the village, stands the Kříž SMÍŘENÍ, a 6.5-metre-high oak cross. Three described routes lead to the Kříž SMÍŘENÍ: from below via the apiary and the Velešovice orchard, from above via the model aircraft site above Rousínov, or from the car park above the golf course.
Nature
The highest point in the cadastral area of Velešovice is Stará hora, at 301 metres. The landscape also includes the 12-hectare Vrchní rybník Biocentre. It comprises a pond, a wetland and open channels supplying water. Since the biocentre was established, new animal and plant species have gradually returned to the area.
History
Velešovice lies in the immediate vicinity of the protected heritage zone of the Slavkov battlefield, designated in 1992 and comprising 17 municipalities.
