Křenovice: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Křenovice is located 3 km southwest of Slavkov u Brna on both sides of the Rakovec stream. The marked educational trail “Šibeniční a popravčí vrch” begins in the village center. It is approximately 2 km long, runs exclusively along footpaths, and connects to the marked hiking trail across the Austerlitz battlefield.

History and Culture

The Church of St. Lawrence in Křenovice is described as ancient in a parish register from the early 19th century. It includes a sacristy, a choir loft with a positive organ, and three wooden altars. The wayside shrine “Boží muka na Široké” also refers to local history: it was rebuilt in 2005 and consecrated in 2006. At the consecration, 200 years had passed since its construction and 50 years since its collapse.

House No. 65, the former Spáčil farmstead, is one of the historic sites of the Austerlitz battlefield. On the night before the Battle of Austerlitz, from December 1 to 2, 1805, the Russian general and commander of the allied forces, Mikhail Illarionovich Kutuzov, spent the night there; a memorial plaque in front of the house commemorates this.

The Smírčí kříž is a monolithic stone cross on a field path in Křenovice and is registered as a protected cultural monument. It stands at a site with a beautiful view to the north and, alongside the Church of St. Lawrence, is considered one of the oldest witnesses to the history of Křenovice.

Trails, Hills and Views

At Krchůvek on Zlatá hora hill are mass graves of soldiers from the Battle of the Three Emperors as well as local victims of cholera. Krchůvek is freely accessible, is suitable as a stopover for cycling trips, and lies on cycle route No. 5097. This route passes through Křenovice, is 28.5 km long, moderately difficult, and suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes.

From Krchůvek, there are views of Křenovice, Slavkov, Šaratice, Hrušky and the Ždánický les, and in clear weather of the Pálava hills and the peaks of the Chřiby Mountains. A shorter route is cycle route No. 5101: it runs through Šaratice, Zbýšov and Křenovice, is 4 km long, easy, and suitable for all types of bicycles.

The 31 km-long cycle route “Po slavkovském bojišti I.” and the 50 km-long cycle route “Po slavkovském bojišti III.” also pass through Křenovice. One of the mentioned cycling trips begins in Křenovice; from Brno, the two Křenovice railway stations, Křenovice Horní and Křenovice Dolní, can be reached by train lines S2 or S6.

Festivals and Church Events

“Francouzové v Křenovicích” takes place every year in early December to mark the anniversary of the Battle of the Three Emperors in the area of the Austerlitz battlefield. Vavřinecké hody is the local church festival currently celebrated in Křenovice and usually takes place on the second Sunday in August. Since 2012, the Křenovice parish has participated in the “Noc kostelů” event.

The “Pod křenovskó májó” festival is held every year by the Municipality of Křenovice together with the Křenováček children’s folklore ensemble. The folklore festival originated as a regional showcase of ensembles from the Vyškov area.
