Ruda: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ruda is particularly defined by the „sv. Jiljí“ Church: The foundation stone for the present-day church was laid on 25 May 1792, and it was consecrated on 4 September 1795.

Culture

The „sv. Jiljí“ Church is considered the most important historical monument in Ruda. Four bells hang in its tower, including one dating from 1516 and another from 1709. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands next to the church. The „sv. Jiljí“ pilgrimage takes place every year; people in traditional dress helped with the preparations during the pilgrimage weekend.

History

The first recorded mention of Ruda dates from 1353, when the settlement was referred to as Hruda. Historic iron ore mining is represented by miners' hammers on the municipality's coat of arms and flag.

Routes

Cycle Route 5240 runs through Ruda, connecting Bohdalec, Křižanov and Tasov. A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through the cadastral area, with route options via Jabloňov and Tasov to Budišov or via Ořechov and Osová Bítýška to Velká Bíteš. The „Zlaté kolo Vysočiny“ is an annual cycling tour for unregistered cyclists of all ages; it starts and ends in Ruda near Velké Meziříčí. Free cycling maps are available at the local U Malců inn.

Traditions

Next to the Holíkův pond, which now serves as a fire-fighting reservoir, stands an atonement cross stone dating from 1812 and measuring 71 × 36 × 20 cm. A traditional nativity scene has been displayed in Ruda at the same location in front of the church for decades. During the Christmas season, visitors can also see illuminated nativity scenes while walking through Ruda, in the „sv. Jana Nepomuckého“ Chapel and in the window of the cultural centre's library.

Landscape

Koní hora, Duforty and Ambrožný are mountains in the vicinity of Ruda. Horka is a mountain in the area around Ruda. In the wider region are Veveří Castle, a castle, as well as Rabštejn and Tempelštejn, both ruins. Svatý Marek, a church, is also located there.
