Podhradí Nad Dyjí: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Podhradí nad Dyjí is situated on the Dyje, which flows here through a wide valley between steep cliffs and continues on to the Vranov Reservoir.

Landscape and Nature

Northwest of Podhradí nad Dyjí, on the left bank of the Dyje, lies the Podhradské skály Nature Reserve. It was first designated as a nature reserve on January 7, 1998, and comprises vertical, sun-exposed rock walls and steep slopes above the left bank of the Dyje with significant plant communities.

History and Art

Frejštejn is a well-preserved castle ruin. It was founded in the mid-13th century and fell into ruin in the second half of the 15th century. An excursion route operated by the National Heritage Institute leads through Podhradí nad Dyjí; visitors can see the Frejštejn castle ruin there.

Podhradí nad Dyjí is also home to a station of Kristkova podyjská glyptotéka. It consists of 11 sculptures by Lubo Kristek, created in the 1990s.

Water and Routes

The Dyje near Podhradí nad Dyjí is considered a place for swimming. A signposted Czech-Austrian cross-border cycling route also passes through the village.

A time-limited notice concerns the bridge over the Dyje: due to reconstruction, it will be closed from September 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
