Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice combines a strong wine tradition with places of remembrance. From May to November, at least one wine cellar in Nový Šaldorf is open to visitors every day.
Wine and Local Tradition
The Modré sklepy area covers 9 hectares and contains more than 180 wine cellars. The cellars are dug into sandstone with blue-grey clay layers; at the center of the wine colony stands a historic wooden wine press dating from the 18th century.
The annual cycle is also connected with wine culture: the traditional September Posvícení in Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice includes the erection of a maypole. Celebrations for St. Martin’s Day take place at the historic wine presses in November.
Culture and Remembrance
In Sedlešovice, there is a late Gothic column that is considered a cultural monument and was erected at the beginning of the 16th century in memory of a severe flood. Two further columns bearing the names of soldiers who fell in the First World War stand beside it.
Nature and Vineyard Sites
Part of the municipality of Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice lies within Podyjí National Park. Wine cycling trails around Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice lead through Podyjí National Park and local vineyards.
Špalkova vyhlídka is located at the renowned Kraví Hora vineyard site, which stretches between Znojmo, Sedlešovice and Nový Šaldorf.
