Suchohrdly: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The partly wooded Hájek Hill rises on the southeastern and southern outskirts of Suchohrdly, shaping the view of the Znojmo panorama. From Hájek, the view extends east and southeast across the Dyje-Svratka Depression to the Pálava Hills, and south toward Austria.

Landscape

Bohnický Pond lies in Purkrábka Forest. The surroundings of Suchohrdly are also home to Karlslust Château, Příčník, Václavský Kopec, White Cross, and Schönspiegelmarter. Gollitsch, Ludwigstorff Château, and Binderberg are located in the wider regional area around Suchohrdly.

History and Culture

In 1809, Napoleon directed the battle from an oak tree below Hájek. Historically, Purkrábka Forest belonged to Znojmo Castle, which was held by the junior princes of the Přemyslid dynasty. The site contains an old hillfort and urn graves dating from the Hallstatt period.

The Zvonička in Suchohrdly is listed as a cultural monument dating from 1829. Every year, local residents gather at the Zvonička to light the Christmas tree. The Chapel of Saint Margaret was also built in 1829 at the municipality’s expense.

The educational trail “In the Footsteps of Napoleon’s Activities in the Znojmo Region” is more of a series of independent information panels. Thematically, it connects places associated with the presence of Napoleon’s troops in connection with the Battle of Znojmo.
