Nature
Ostrov u Macochy lies in the northern part of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. The municipality extends on both sides of the Ostrovský žleb valley; the central part of Ostrov u Macochy lies on the edge of the Ostrovská plošina plateau. In Ostrov u Macochy, the Balcarova skála–Vintoky Nature Reserve protects a geomorphologically valuable karst area in Devonian limestone with cave systems.
The karst is also evident below the surface: after flowing underground for some time and joining other sinking streams, the waters of the Lopač reappear at the Malý výtok Punkvy in the Pustý žleb.
Culture
The late Baroque Church of St Mary Magdalene in Ostrov u Macochy dates from 1785. The local landscape also includes the windmill in Ostrov, a Dutch-type masonry windmill made of natural stone. It is located 600 metres northwest of the town centre above a former lime works.
