The 4 km-long Příměstský okruh is located in the immediate vicinity of Nové Město na Moravě and is prepared for both classic cross-country skiing and the skating technique. The Vysočina Arena offers roller-ski circuits with a total length of 8.5 km, as well as marked running trails ranging from 2 to 13 km.
In addition, the Městské lázně have a 25 m swimming pool with four lanes. The tourist information centre also offers guided tours of the town centre, providing information about the town’s history and its notable personalities.
Culture and Town History
The Church of St. Cunegunda is the oldest monument in the town’s history and, as a distinctive building, defines the town square. It combines Gothic and Baroque elements with sgraffito decoration by the local artist Karel Němec.
The Horácké Museum is housed in the building of the old Renaissance town hall from the 16th century. It presents folk culture, glassmaking, ironworking and skiing-related topics from the northern part of Moravian Horácko. Its unusual collection of ski equipment and ski clothing includes documentation on the development of skis and bindings, the production of the Sport company, and awards and medals.
The Horácká Gallery is housed in a former Renaissance château on Vratislavovo náměstí in Nové Město na Moravě. An exhibition about Vincenc Makovský honours the important sculptor in his hometown and home region. Another exhibition about Jan Štursa provides a cross-section of his work – from his student years and representative works to pieces reflecting his wartime experiences.
At House No. 13, the story of the Jewish Brada family commemorates the victims of the Holocaust.
