History

The château in Klobouky u Brna was built in 1589 as a summer residence for the provosts of the Premonstratensian monastery in Zábrdovice. The historic Česká cesta ran directly through Klobouky u Brna, passing along the château complex and its farm buildings in the lower part of the market square.

Culture

The extension to the Church of St Lawrence began on 31 March 1655 under Father Hugo Colin. The Church of St Lawrence is dedicated to the Roman deacon and martyr Saint Lawrence and was included in the state list of cultural monuments in 1964.

The Zábrdovice Monastery built the Chapel of St Barbara in 1669 on the hill above the Catholic church. It houses frescoes from 1709 depicting the life of its patron saint. Every year, a pilgrimage takes place at the chapel on the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity; its tradition dates back to the Baroque period.

The present-day Větrný mlýn windmill was reconstructed between 1983 and 1985 at the original site of the 1748 windmill. It has a complete interior and is fully operational. The windmill can be visited from 1 May to 30 September; from Monday to Friday and outside this period, visits are possible by prior arrangement.

Landscape

Klobouky u Brna lies in the valley of the Kloboucký stream in a gently undulating landscape of vineyards, fields and extensive forests. The Moravská vinná stezka wine trail runs through Klobouky u Brna and its surroundings.
