Horní Dubňany: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
In Horní Dubňany, a tradition passed down through generations meets a historically distinctive church complex. During Holy Week, the young men of Horní Dubňany gather with their Hrkači at the church; afterwards, they make their way through the entire village along a traditional route that has remained unchanged for several generations, pushing the rattles known as Trakače ahead of them.
Culture and history
The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Horní Dubňany is an active parish church with regular services. It has a Romanesque core and was probably built as early as the 12th century. Its stone Romanesque entrance portal dates from the second half of the 12th century; its lintel is decorated with animal reliefs on the sides.
The surrounding wall of the church is an important structural and architectural component of the church complex. Tombs of the owners of the Tulešice estate are arranged around the church wall. A protected cross stands by the church; at its base are Saint Mary Magdalene and an angel with a cartouche. There is also a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk near the church.
The Dubňanská pouť pilgrimage in honour of Saints Peter and Paul took place in 2015 as an annual pilgrimage.
