Mackovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mackovice is one of the oldest settlements in the Znojmo District. An Iron Age settlement from the La Tène period has been archaeologically documented in Mackovice; a Roman coin from AD 75 was found in a field between Mackovice and Načeraticemi.

Culture and History

The Church of the Betrothal of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque church and a prominent landmark on a rise above Mackovice village square. It was enlarged from a chapel built in 1712. The Boží Muka wayside shrine in Mackovice dates from the mid-19th century, while the Poklona chapel dates from the 1860s.

Nature

The Břežanka and Břežanský rybník Natura 2000 site comprises floodplain wetlands in the valley of the Břežanka stream and protects the Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana).

Wine and Traditions

The upper wine-growing rights granted to Mackovice in 1390 show that grapevines were already being cultivated there at that time. The traditional krojované hody celebrations are considered Mackovice's most important cultural event and take place in July.

Getting Around

The marked Mezi poli a vinohrady cycle route runs through Mackovice. It is 25 km long and mostly follows lightly trafficked roads and farm tracks.
