Hevlín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hevlín combines historical monuments, the protected Hevlínské jezero natural monument and cross-border cycling routes. Hevlín’s oldest and most valuable monument is a Romanesque column that once marked a ford across the Dyje.

Culture

The present-day Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was completed in 1743; it has been documented as a parish church since as early as 1282. The statue of Saint Roch was created in 1832 following a cholera epidemic, while the chapel at the railway crossing in Hevlín dates back to 1777.

A special example of South Moravian ecclesiastical architecture is provided by the late Gothic stone Boží muka in Hevlín. They are considered an example of small-scale ecclesiastical architecture from the transitional period between the Middle Ages and the early modern era. The Boží muka has a lantern open towards the front, with figurative reliefs of four saints, and is made of Austrian shell limestone. The traditional Hevlínské krojované hody festival includes a procession of the costumed community through Hevlín, accompanied by brass music.

Nature

Hevlínské jezero is a protected natural monument consisting of several small lakes with reed beds. It provides a habitat for specially protected amphibian species and wetland birds. The Dyje near Hevlín is considered a fishing destination; there are also fishing opportunities on the Dyje and at a total of eight ponds in the centre of Hevlín.

Cycling Routes

The Brno–Vienna cycle route leads to the Hevlín/Laa an der Thaya border crossing and is almost 170 kilometres long in total. It runs mostly away from heavily trafficked roads, on dedicated cycle paths or on quiet lower-class roads.

As a circular route, the 44-kilometre “Po rovince” cycle route runs from Hevlín via Jevišovka, Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou, Pravice, Šanov, Velký Karlov and Dyjákovice back to Hevlín. The route is signposted and runs 80 percent on local roads without regular road traffic. The cross-border “Ahoj sousede, Hallo Nachbar” cycle route passes through a quiet, almost untouched landscape on well-maintained paths and with little change in elevation.
