Olbramkostel: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Olbramkostel is located on the southwestern edge of Jevišovka Nature Park and in the valley of the Plenkovický stream. The nature park has existed since 1992, covers 13,840 hectares and lies in the hilly terrain of the Jevišovická pahorkatina. About 1.3 kilometres to the north is the 3.2-hectare protected Čekal pond area. It was established to protect a population of fire-bellied toads (Bombina bombina) as well as other rare animal and plant species.

Nature and landscape

The distinctive Šenkenberk ruin is also part of the landscape around Olbramkostel. It stands on a prominent rocky spur at an altitude of about 410 metres, around which the Plenkovický stream meanders. The ruin of Šenkenberk Castle, also known as Šimperk, is located 3 kilometres west of Olbramkostel. Šenkenberk is considered one of the oldest noble foundations in Moravia and was probably built after 1240.

The surroundings of Olbramkostel are suitable for walks and cycling tours thanks to their extensive forests and hiking trails. The area also includes Karlslust Castle, Příčník, Schwalbenfelsen, Binderberg, Heimatkreuz, Lange Marter and Saint Hubertus. Václavský Kopec is located in the vicinity of Olbramkostel.

History and sacred sites

The history of the village is also documented by a deed issued in Linz on 10 September 1538. It elevated Olbramkostel to the status of a market town and granted it the right to hold a weekly market and an annual fair.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of Olbramkostel. The church in Olbramkostel was probably built around the middle of the 13th century, during the transitional period from the Romanesque to the Gothic style. During the reconstruction of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in 1719, a Baroque side chapel dedicated to Saint Isidore was built. The village’s small sacred architecture also includes the Poklona, a Neoclassical niche chapel dating from around 1800 and an important example of this type of structure on the edge of the settlement.

Another niche chapel stands by the cemetery in Olbramkostel. Behind the village, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands beside the road.

Routes through the surrounding area

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Olbramkostel and connects the village in the direction of Jevišovice and Znojmo. The Jevišovický okruh I cycling route follows the blue-marked hiking trail to Olbramkostel; from there, it continues along the green hiking trail to the Šimperk ruin.
