Blížkovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Blížkovice has been documented as a small town since 1349. The parish Church of St Bartholomew has a Romanesque core dating from the early 13th century; a Gothic presbytery with a sacristy and ossuary was probably added to the church in the first quarter of the 14th century.

Culture and History

The church interior includes a late Renaissance stone baptismal font with a lid bearing a wood carving of the Baptism of Christ from the late 18th century. The Panská hospoda on the market square was the seat of eight guilds.

Local economic and landscape features are also part of Blížkovice’s history: there was a brewery here; hops were apparently also grown in the field behind the church, which was called Chmelenec. In addition, Blížkovice had a relatively extensive system of fishponds.

The municipality describes the Blížkovické posvícení as a traditional festival with an extensive cultural and sports programme. The programme of the Blížkovické slavnosti included a theatrical performance of “ČOCHTAN VYPRAVUJE”, evening entertainment with THE FEET, and brass music by MUZIKANTI Z JIŽNÍCH ČECH.

Cycling

The 84-kilometre Živé pomezí Krumlovsko–Jevišovicko cycling route runs through Blížkovice. It largely avoids heavily trafficked roads and passes through hilly terrain, with sections offering views of the open countryside. Along the western edge of the South Moravian Region, the route connects the two Greenway corridors Praha–Wien (No. 48) and Krakow–Morava–Wien (No. 4).
