History and architectural heritage
The Havlov summer residence estate was built in 1908 on a spur above the Bobrůvka in the cadastral area of Žďárec. In the Víckov district of Žďárec is the Gothic ruin of Víckov Castle. Its remains are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic; the castle is also a valuable archaeological and cultural-historical monument. It stands on a rocky spur above the Loučka near the Víckovský potok.
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a prominent landmark of Žďárec. Gothic frescoes have been preserved in the presbytery of the parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Žďárec. The church was originally Early Gothic and has an Early Gothic core built around 1260; it also acquired a mighty Baroque tower. There are two Valík mills in Žďárec.
Landscape and trails
Žďárec lies in the foothills of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The area around Žďárec is shaped by the two rivers Bobrůvka and Libochůvka, while the older part of the village lies in the Libochůvka floodplain.
The Dolní Řeky trail runs through the lower part of Žďárec along the Bobrůvka valley and through a weekend-house area. The Horní Řeky trail begins at the Žďárec cemetery and leads to the remains of the Žďárec fortress. A cycling tour of approximately 40 kilometres along the Libochovka includes the section between Žďárec and Dolní Loučky.
Water and leisure
At Nový rybník in Žďárec, there are seats suitable for a picnic by the water. In addition to the school canteen, Žďárec has a children’s playground with play facilities for children and adults.
Starý rybník in Žďárec is used for swimming in summer and ice skating and hockey in winter. Local anglers use it almost all year round. Nový rybník offers another place for fishing.
Location and transport
Žďárec is integrated into the South Moravian Integrated Transport System, which provides connections to Tišnov and Brno. Řikonín railway station is less than 3 kilometres from Žďárec.
