Zastávka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
In Zastávka, mining history, railways and woodland paths come together. The town preserves these themes through exhibitions, festivals, historic sites and a narrow-gauge railway, while a cycling loop starts and ends right here.
Culture and History
The Regionální informační centrum Zastávka is located right next to the railway station building. Its rooms house a permanent exhibition documenting the development of hard-coal mining in Zastávka, as well as the history of local industrial companies, schools, sports clubs and theatre ensembles. Admission to the permanent exhibition on mining history at the Regionální informační centrum Zastávka is free. The centre also offers the Minihernička Permoníček, where children can play with games and toys while staying in the café.
The Hornické slavnosti are held annually in Zastávka on 9 September to mark Miners' Day and commemorate the town's mining past. Its industrial heritage included the Důl Julius mine with its own coal-washing plant, briquette factory, steam winding engine and cableway, as well as the industrial complex of the Důl Herring mine with coke ovens, a brickworks and the production of decorative moulded bricks.
Today's Chapel of St John the Baptist was a guild room after 1850, where miners gathered before descending into the Julius mine. In 1911, the building was converted into a chapel and consecrated.
Railways
Zastávka has a second railway station serving the narrow-gauge railway operated by the Muzeum průmyslových železnic. From there, small carriages take visitors to Zbýšov. The Muzeum průmyslových železnic also offers train rides between Zbýšov-Důl Jindřich and Zastávka u Brna, and back.
Nature and Activities
The 35 km cycling loop Kolem Bobravy a Bučína, comprising routes 5171 and 5172, starts and ends in Zastávka. The Lesopark in Zastávka is a quiet area for walking or relaxing and has benches. A walking path follows a forest track alongside the narrow-gauge railway to the former site of the Důl Ferdinand mine.
