Drysice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Drysice lies at the southeastern foothills of the Drahanská vrchovina Highlands. A Class I road from Brno towards Olomouc runs through the village. The first written mention of Drysice dates back to 1201.

History

In 1201, King Přemysl I donated the village to the Cathedral Church of St Wenceslas in Olomouc. Construction of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Drysice began at the end of 1887; it was consecrated on 25 October 1896. Its church tower contains three bells dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Saints Cyril and Methodius, and Saint Florian.

The statue of Saint Florian, erected in 1777, stands in the village square. It commemorates major fires that severely damaged the village. As early as 1750, the Bishop of Olomouc, Coloredo, had a coaching inn built in Drysice.

Culture

The more recent history of the village has also preserved special traces: in 1925, a cooperative dairy was founded in Drysice. It also supplied nearby municipalities, processed up to 2,000 litres of milk daily and produced excellent cheese.

The tradition of “Ostatky” was revived in Drysice with a masked procession through the village and an evening celebration. Wine tastings were also held every year.

Film Locations

The ruins of Melice Castle are located about 1 kilometre west of Drysice on a rocky spur between Pustiměř and Drysice.

The rock faces of the Drysice quarry can be seen in outdoor shots in several Czech feature films, including “Za humny je drak” by Radim Cvrček from 1983 and “Strašidla z vikýře” by the same director from 1988. Scenes from the Slovak children’s television series “Spadla z oblakov”, also by Radim Cvrček and from 1978, were filmed in the vicinity of the quarry as well. General access to the Drysice quarry was prohibited; the access road was blocked by a barrier and marked with signs prohibiting entry, as well as notices indicating private property and a parking ban.
