Vlkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vlkov lies on the right bank of the Lužnice River in the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. Deep forests surround the village; southeast of Vlkov lies the Vlkovský Pond, which belongs to the Třeboňsko pond system.

Nature

Near Vlkov lies the Písečný přesyp u Vlkova Nature Reserve, which protects the best-preserved sand dune. The Písečný přesyp u Vlkova Nature Reserve is not open to the public.

Rare mushroom species, sand-loving plants and numerous groups of invertebrates occur in the nature reserve; the area is therefore considered a site of European importance.

Landscape and Trails

The Veselské pískovny area stretches between Veselí nad Lužnicí – specifically its Horusice district – and the municipality of Vlkov. Five separate gravel lakes are located there, created by gravel and sand extraction between 1952 and 1986.

The Veselské pískovny educational trail is a 7 km circular route around the Vlkovská pískovna and Jezero Veselí I lake. It has 14 information panels on the history of the landscape and the nature around the lakes. The information panels are available in Czech, German and English; the educational game “PÍSEČNOU PLÁŽÍ DO LEDOVÝCH DOB” can also be played along the trail.

The Veselské pískovny offer opportunities for recreational swimming, but they are not officially operated outdoor swimming pools. The Okolo Třeboně educational trail is a 39 km circular route with 22 information stops.

Elevations

Mount Hůrka lies in the vicinity of Vlkov. Nearby are the U Lůsů hill (Ponědrážka) and the Vyšné hill (Val u Veselí nad Lužnicí). In the wider regional area lies Mount Cihadlo.
