Vlhlavy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Vlhlavy features a number of farmsteads in the Folk Baroque style. At the same time, the history of the village probably reaches back to the Neolithic period, more than 7,000 years ago. The first written record of Vlhlavy dates from 1273.
Culture and History
On the village square in Vlhlavy stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, opposite Farmstead No. 5. Its portal is dated 1841; inside there is a polychrome statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.
Farmstead No. 5 is considered the best-preserved Folk Baroque building in Vlhlavy. Its gables are in the Blata style and are painted with Saint Wenceslas and Saint Florian.
Traces of the ditches remain in the terrain at the site of the former Vlhlavy fortress. The fortress was captured and burned down by the Hussites in autumn 1420 under Jan Hrůza of Vlhlavy.
Ponds and Nature
The Vlhlavy area is part of the České Budějovice Ponds bird protection area. Vlhlavský Pond is one of the five largest ponds in the Budějovice–Hluboká pond system and also the tenth-oldest pond in South Bohemia. It was created in 1387–1388.
The Velký Karasín natural monument is also located in the vicinity of Vlhlavy.
