Strazkovice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Strážkovice lies on the eastern slope of Strážkovická hora. At 557 m, it is the highest point in the municipality of Strážkovice. In favourable weather, the mountain offers extensive views of the surrounding area and sometimes as far as the Alps.

Cycling

In the centre of Strážkovice, next to the cultural centre with a restaurant, there is a charging station for electric bicycles. It has four bicycle stands and a compressor for inflating tyres.

The “Na kole Doudlebskem a Novohradskem” cycle route passes through Strážkovice. It is 110 km long in total and divided into stages of 58 km and 52 km. The route is considered moderately difficult to challenging and is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes.

The cycling trip “K rodišti Jana Žižky z Trocnova” is 63.7 km long, moderately difficult and suitable as a full-day excursion. Cycle route CT1121 passes through Strážkovice on the way from Střížov to Trocnov. A 73 km-long cycle route is recommended for the educational trail “Stezka kovářství”.

Culture and history

The Strážkovice smithy, a technical monument, stands on the village green. It was probably used for its original purpose until 1969. The stone signpost in Strážkovice is a valuable and authentically preserved example of the small traffic-related structures that supplemented the expanding road networks in the 19th century.

Due to its historic buildings on the elevated ground, Strážkovice is one of the so-called “fire villages”. In times of danger, residents used fires at night to warn of approaching troops. The regular settlement layout with a large, spacious village green indicates that the village was founded during the High Medieval colonisation in the 13th or 14th century.

The Trocnov complex lies about 2 km east of Strážkovice; Trocnov is a national cultural monument. The complex includes a memorial with a museum exhibition on the Hussite movement. It also features a marked circular trail with the remains of former farmsteads: Jan Žižka lived in one of them and his uncle in the other.

The Church of St Martin is located in Střížov and serves as the parish church for Strážkovice. It was consecrated in 1493.
