Ledenice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The character of Ledenice can be understood through its history, water and craftsmanship. Historic buildings and monuments are just as central as small ponds, paths and cultural traditions.

Culture

The Church of St. Lawrence in Ledenice was built around 1300 on the site of an older chapel. It is an early Gothic building with a rectangularly terminated presbytery; in 1782, it was extended with a Baroque tower. St. Lawrence and the rectory are listed as an immovable cultural monument under ÚSKP number 41645/3-219. This cultural monument also includes a gate and an enclosing wall.

To this day, a stone pillory dating from 1778 stands on Ledenice Square, on the road in front of the school building. The Ledenice pillory is an exceptional monument to the history of justice. The town hall is located in a former brewery utility building, where beer has been brewed since the 16th century. Ledenice is also home to three statues of Saint John of Nepomuk; one of them dates from 1842 and was created by an unknown folk artist.

The private Fink Marionette Museum includes a permanent puppet theatre where performances based on family scripts are staged on request. The operator still repairs old marionettes and makes new ones. The museum can be visited after ringing the bell or by calling 606 925 146 in advance.

The training centre for practical carpentry education in Ledenice builds on a local carpentry tradition dating back more than a hundred years; an independent vocational school has existed there since 1968. The virtual museum in Ledenice covers the living traditions of carpentry and furniture making from the 19th century to the present day.

Nature and Paths

Small bodies of water within Ledenice’s built-up area – including Bagr, Dolní and Horní Hradský, Dolní and Horní Jáma, Lazna, Parčák and Slavíček – are popular destinations for walks and fishing, as well as for ice skating in winter. Adamovský Pond, also known as Adamec, lies east of Ledenice and, at probably at least 8 ha, is the largest pond in the Ledenicko area.

The former rectory garden with a small pond was transformed into a park-like recreational area in 2004. Cycle Route 1050 was newly signposted and now leads to Ledenice away from the main road. A combined path for pedestrians and cyclists was also built from Ledenice to the junction with Ohrazeníčko.

History

The former castle site lay immediately above Dolní Hradský Pond and was built over with residential houses after the castle fell into ruin. The name of the Hrad district in Ledenice, located southeast of the stream, recalls a former manor and is one of the few surviving references to it. The game preserve mentioned in 1376 below Ledenice Castle was one of the oldest aristocratic game preserves in Bohemia and disappeared together with the castle during the Hussite Wars.
