Stádlec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Stádlec combines local history, cultural monuments and paths along the Lužnice River. This character is particularly diverse at the former synagogue, Stádlec Castle and the Stádlecký Bridge.

Culture and History

The building of the former Stádlec Synagogue was originally a Renaissance castle theatre and was converted into a district synagogue at the end of the 19th century. It served as a synagogue until 1937. Today, the building houses a cultural centre and two apartments. The former synagogue is a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The Jewish cemetery of Stádlec lies south of the town beside an unnamed stream that flows into the Oltyňský potok shortly afterwards.

Castle and Park

Stádlec Castle is a cultural monument. It is a single-storey, four-winged building with a rectangular courtyard. The castle has extensive grounds, which are currently neglected.

Hiking, Cycling and Bridges

The fourth section of the long-distance hiking route “Stezka podél Lužnice” begins in Sezimovo Ústí and leads to the confluence of the Lužnice and the Vltava near Týn nad Vltavou. In Stádlec, this section leads to the oldest chain bridge in the Czech Republic. After the Stádlecký Bridge, it continues past the ruins of Dobronice Castle to Bechyně.

The Stádlecký Bridge was reopened at its present location on the Lužnice on 25 May 1975. It is a unique technical monument and the last Empire-style bridge in the Czech Republic; it was also relocated from the Vltava to the Lužnice. The Stádlecký Bridge is also accessible to cyclists.

Another route, “Poloostrov mezi Lužnicí a Lužnicí”, leads through Stádlec, Křída and Dobronice after the Stádlecký Bridge.
