Oemau: Holiday apartments and houses
Oemau (Soběnov) lies at the foot of the 870-metre-high Kohout, the highest peak in the Soběnov Highlands Nature Park, known locally as Slepičí hory (Hens’ Mountains).
Landscape and water
The Soběnov Highlands Nature Park around Soběnov contains remnants of a mixed scree forest. The Soběnov Reservoir is the oldest still-functioning reservoir in South Bohemia. It is accessible year-round and admission is free.
Paths and rocks
The Údolím Černé educational trail has nine stations and is 3 km long; it leads from the Soběnov Reservoir to the Soběnov hydroelectric power station. The Slepičí Hory hiking trail descends to the Černá, connects to the Údolím Černé educational trail, and runs via the Soběnov Reservoir past the ruins of Sokolčí Castle.
From Soběnov, visitors can reach the ruins of Sokolčí Castle via the road towards Děkanské Skaliny, the turn-off to the U dubu mill, and the green-marked Údolím Černé educational trail. The clearly visible remains of the castle lie not far from Soběnov on a rocky spur above the Černá stream.
The longest version of the Paměti Slepičích hor circular route is 54 km long and connects 17 stations with information boards. The Paměti Slepičích hor cycle route is marked with cycling tourist signs bearing the route logo. The Sokolčí climbing area has a 25-metre-high and 70-metre-wide granite wall for face climbing, crack climbing and chimney climbing.
Culture and architecture
The Church of St Nicholas stands in the northern part of Soběnov near the village square, in an elevated position. It was originally Gothic, was given a Baroque makeover in the mid-17th century, and was restored in 1853. Its Gothic origins can be recognised in its tower.
The Boží muka wayside shrine in Soběnov is an important feature of the townscape and landscape. The stone shrine stands on the southeastern edge of Soběnov on the road towards Děkanské Skaliny. The shrine, but not the land, is protected as a cultural monument. The complex of the Holy Virgin Mary in Soběnov is considered an architecturally valuable ensemble.
Festivals and events
In Soběnov, the Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated in the Church or Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Hájek with a Eucharistic procession: in 2019 on 23 June, in 2021 on 5 June, and in 2024 on 2 June. The 17th “Battle of the Roses” (Válka růží), a traditional diocesan gathering for altar servers and scouts featuring spiritual activities and sports, was scheduled to take place in Soběnov on 10 and 11 September. In addition, timed stages of the Český Krumlov Rally start and finish in Soběnov every year.
