Rovná: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Rovná combines village history, natural monuments and an educational trail. Historic architectural styles, rare plant habitats and paths through the surrounding countryside give the village a variety of distinctive features.

Culture

The Chapel of the Holy Cross dates from 1717 and stands next to Rovná’s sports field. The agricultural homestead No. 26, dating from 1852, is located in the village square. Its gable is designed in the folk Baroque style; the homestead also includes a vaulted room that served as a kitchen and a living room with a wooden-beamed ceiling.

Nature

The Rovná National Nature Monument lies in a meadow on the northwestern shore of Rovenský rybník. In spring, spring gentian (Gentiana verna) blooms there. The Sedlina Nature Monument lies in the northern part of Rovná’s administrative area. It is an important site for the critically endangered pale orchid (Orchis pallens), the only occurrence of this species in the southern half of Bohemia.

The Rovná locality near Strakonice has a lowland population that was described in 2026 as the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic.

Things to Do

Cycle Route No. 1260 from Strakonice to Písek runs through Řepice and Rovná. From Rovná, a farm track continues eastwards to Chlum Forest.

The Rovná Educational Trail was officially opened on 20 September 2025 and has five information panels. It presents the history and present of the municipality, rare natural phenomena and historic sights in the surrounding area.

History

The Modrý Hořec association traditionally organizes the Drakiáda kite festival and the Morana procession in Rovná.

At the southern edge of the abandoned limestone quarry on Zbuš stand two domed lime kilns built from fired bricks. Technical details of their construction are still visible on them. The Zbuš rural lime kilns date from the 1880s. Rovná lime was used to build barracks, schools and other buildings in Písek.
