Culture and History

The first written records of Pořín date back to the 14th century. The name Pořín is derived from the personal name Póra and is interpreted as “Pórův dvůr” (“Póra’s farmstead”).

The late Baroque village chapel in Pořín is the branch church of St. Bartholomew and dates from 1760 to 1770. The Church of St. Bartholomew retains a historic single-manual organ and a late Baroque high altar with a painting of the martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew.

The Tábor–Pelhřimov–Horní Cerekev railway line was built by Italian workers in 1883. It is known as “Hrbatá” because it crosses the difficult terrain of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

The Lejčkovský potok stream flows beneath the railway bridge behind Pořín railway station.
