Písečné U Slavonic: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Písečné lies in the valley of the Moravská Dyje River. The preserved cultural heritage in Písečné reflects Czech, German and Jewish cultures – a connection that can be clearly traced in the town’s historic buildings and Jewish cemetery.

Culture and history

From 1726 to 1729, the Jewish community of Písečné effectively formed an independent political municipality. The Jewish cemetery contains gravestones from the first half of the 18th century; the last legible gravestone bears the date 11 August 1936. With its mortuary, cemetery wall and gravestones, the cemetery is exceptionally well preserved as an ensemble.

Písečné Castle also shapes the historic appearance of the town. It is a late-Gothic four-winged building with an inner courtyard. A distillery built in the second half of the 19th century is attached to the north side of the castle. To the west stands a large, two-storey granary from the last quarter of the 18th century.

Nature

The Moravská Dyje Natura 2000 site provides suitable habitat for the Eurasian otter and the bitterling. Protected and rare animal and plant species occur in the Moravská Dyje area, which also includes the municipal territory of Písečné; these species are associated with flowing-water, wetland, floodplain meadow, mesophilous to xerophilous grassland and open rocky habitats.

Cycle routes

Two nationally designated cycle routes pass through Písečné. The sixth stage of EuroVelo 13 runs along the Slavonice–Gilgenberg–Písečné–Dešná–Hluboká–Drosendorf route. Long-distance cycle route 48 Prague–Vienna runs via Slavonice, Písečné and Vratěnín.
