The Omlenice area lies on two broad uplands, separated in the middle by a continuous belt of forest. In the eastern part of the area, there are expansive views across the surrounding countryside as far as the distant Novohradské hory mountains.
Landscape and Nature
Parts of the cadastral area of Omlenice lie within Poluška Nature Park. The Omlenický vrch hill and the “(Výnězdská pláň) [Rožmitál na Šumavě-Zahrádka]” hill are located in the vicinity of Omlenice. Aubühel mountain lies near Omlenice, while Zaječí mountain is located in the wider regional surroundings of Omlenice.
The summit of Poluška lies in the Šumava foothills and is 919 metres high. Thus, the landscape extends from the uplands and the belt of forest into the broader mountainous region.
Culture and History
The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and Saint John of Nepomuk in Omlenička was built in 1722. It is a single-nave Baroque building with a two-storey Baroque tower; its furnishings date from the first half of the 18th century.
The château in Omlenička was built in 1727 on the site of an earlier Gothic-Renaissance fortress or château, at the same time as the church was built. Rosenhof Château lies in the wider regional surroundings of Omlenice.
Trails
Red- and blue-marked hiking trails lead northwards from Omlenička to Poluška. The marked “Cesta odboje” route passes through a landscape featuring the vanished villages of Velký and Malý Chuchelec and the hamlet of Lannovy domky, linking the memorials to the victims of the Second World War near Omlenice and Výheň.
