Hohenfurth: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Hohenfurth (Vyšší Brod) is shaped by its monastery history, Marian pilgrimage tradition, and the landscape of the Vltava.
History
The first written mention of Vyšší Brod comes from the founding charter of the Cistercian monastery dated 1 June 1259. The Cistercian monastery was founded in 1259 by the Rožmberk family. The beginnings of Vyšší Brod are also connected with trade along one of the oldest routes linking Bohemia with the Danube region.
Culture
The monastery complex includes a medieval fortified site with the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Cistercian monastery is a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic and offers several tour routes. The monastery's tour routes include the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
The Poštovní muzeum NTM is located within the grounds of the Cistercian monastery. It presents the development of postal and telecommunications services as well as the history of postal transportation. The Church of St Bartholomew and its associated cemetery in Vyšší Brod are cultural monuments.
Pilgrimage
Maria Rast is a Marian pilgrimage site with a group of buildings and a Stations of the Cross. A Stations of the Cross with 14 stations leads from the parish church in Vyšší Brod to Maria Rast; it was established in 1898.
Today, Maria Rast is part of the newly established Opatská stezka tourist circuit. It connects various objects created or redesigned by Vyšší Brod Monastery in the wooded area behind the monastery, including an artificial water channel supplying the monastery with water, the waterfalls of Saint Wolfgang, and a hammer.
Nature
A navigable section of the Vltava begins in Vyšší Brod. The Čertova stěna-Luč nature reserve, with a deep river canyon of the Vltava, is located in the vicinity of Vyšší Brod. There, the Vltava flows through a natural channel filled with massive granite blocks and featuring typical potholes; this section is known as Čertovy proudy.
Geographical Location
The Vyšší Brod–klášter railway station is approximately a five-minute walk from the monastery.
