Malonty lies at an altitude of 690 m on the edge of the Novohradské hory Protected Landscape Area. The surrounding area is suitable for hiking tourism and also offers opportunities for fishing. The landscape and local history are closely intertwined here.
Trails
An approximately 5 km-long virtual educational trail created by the school in Malonty complements the paths through the surrounding area. Another route leads from the village square in Malonty to Jelení vrch: it is 4.91 km long and takes about two hours on foot.
Jelení vrch, also called Doppler, is 956 m high. This links the specific route from the village square with a named mountain destination in the nearby area.
Culture
A stone late Gothic wayside shrine dating from the 16th century stands on the road from Malonty to Kaplice. In the village, the Church of St. Bartholomew is one of the prominent historic buildings. Its two-aisled section was built shortly after the choir, in the first quarter or, respectively, the first third of the 15th century.
The stone, plastered Church of St. Bartholomew stands on a hill above Malonty, in the middle of the cemetery. The Chapel of St. Barbara is part of the Malonty church complex; the Church of St. Bartholomew is attached to the chapel's southern wall by its choir.
History
Malonty was first mentioned in writing in 1360. The early history of the surrounding area also includes two glassworks founded by the early settlers.
