Nová Pec is located at the end of the Lipno Reservoir. The village can be reached by car and train; Nová Pec is also accessible on foot, by bicycle, canoe, skis, or inline skates.

Landscape

Below Nová Pec, the Vltava continues as a naturally meandering river. Plešné jezero is a glacial lake located west of Nová Pec, below the nearby mountain Plechý. From Nová Pec, an approximately 9 km long route marked in green leads to the lake.

The mountains Smrčina [Horní Planá] and Hochficht are located in the immediate vicinity of Nová Pec. Mount Perník is also nearby; the Medvědí stezka trail runs along its slopes through a unique granite rock city.

The excursion to the Medvědí stezka begins in Nová Pec with an approximately 3 km section along a cycle path in the direction of Ovesná.

Culture and History

The founding of Nová Pec is dated to the mid-17th century. The Schwarzenberský plavební kanál runs along the upper edge of the unforested area in Nová Pec. It is a national cultural monument.

The archaeological site of Chlumany is located in the wider regional area around Nová Pec. The Schiffler Kapelle church is located in the vicinity of Nová Pec; the Pfarrkirche Haslach church and the Hubertuskapelle church are also located in the wider regional area.
