Nová Olešná: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nová Olešná lies in a beautiful valley along a stream lined with alder trees. These alders gave the place its name.

History

Nová Olešná was founded in the 12th century. Due to its secluded location, it became one of the places of refuge for the Bohemian Brethren. The first written mention dates from 1379. Until 1947, Nová Olešná was called Německá Olešná, or Deutsch Wolleschna in German.

Culture

In the centre of Nová Olešná stands the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. Its stone portal is dated 1722; the chapel is an example of small-scale Baroque sacred architecture and has remarkable bells.

The brick-built, rendered chapel with a three-sided chancel stands at a sharp bend in Nová Olešná.

Local History

At the southern edge of Nová Olešná stands the Jan Amos Comenius monument at the former cemetery of the Bohemian Brethren. It is a granite stone from 1929 erected on a pedestal. The monument stands on an unfenced, landscaped area with mature trees.

The monument includes a bronze relief medallion bearing the inscription “J. A. KOMENSKÉMU” and the head of the teacher. It also bears the inscription “PAMÁTCE / ČESKÝCH BRATŘÍ”.

Nature

Malý Bukač is a nature monument protecting the ecosystem of a pond and the surrounding habitats. It is home to specially protected and significant animal and plant species, particularly amphibians.

Leisure

Komáří louka is intended for public leisure activities. The site is suitable for individuals, families with children, and smaller and larger groups. There is also a tennis court at Komáří louka; tennis equipment can be rented.
