Dolní Žďár: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 53-kilometre-long Nežárka cycle path runs through Dolní Žďár. It leads from Horní Žďár via Dolní Žďár to Horní Lhota, follows the river from the confluence of the Kamenice and Žirovnice rivers to its confluence with the Lužnice, and is suitable for trekking bikes.

River and cycle paths

Dolní Žďár and its district of Horní Lhota lie within the Nežárka catchment area. The weir in Dolní Žďár on the Nežárka is partially navigable at higher flows; carrying boats around it is possible on the right bank.

The 19-kilometre cycling trip “Jindřichův Hradec–Horní Pěna–Dolní Pěna” passes through Dolní Žďár and is designed as a family excursion with a low level of physical difficulty. The 61-kilometre Partnerství cycle route also passes through Dolní Žďár.

History and culture

Dolní Žďár was first mentioned in written records in 1211. Horní Lhota, formerly also known as Ovesná, became a settlement of the municipality of Dolní Žďár in 1869.

The Chapel of Saint Teresa of Ávila stands on the Nežárka in Dolní Žďár. It has a bell tower and a folk historicist character; services are occasionally held in the chapel.

Dolní Žďár is home to a wayside shrine dating from the 17th century. A combined mill and bakery operation is documented for Dolní mlýn (Niedermühl) in Dolní Žďár. The milling technology of the Dolní mlýn (Niedermühl) complex in Dolní Žďár has survived as a preserved torso.
