Kolodeje Nad Luznici: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mitrowicz Castle, formerly known as Koloděje nad Lužnicí Castle, was built in 1565 as a small Renaissance manor house with a trapezoidal ground plan and a moat fed by the Lužnice River.

Culture and History

Mitrowicz Castle includes the Chapel of St Anne, whose interior is richly decorated with frescoes. The ceiling fresco depicts the Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity; the chapel also contains an organ dating from 1818. On the outskirts of Koloděje nad Lužnicí, in the direction of Týn nad Vltavou, stands the Joseph II granary. It was built in 1771 as a grain store to help prevent famine.

Jewish Heritage

The Jewish cemetery in Koloděje nad Lužnicí is the largest monument complex of its kind in what is now the South Bohemian Region. The cemetery contains the only tumba in southern Bohemia, standing over the grave of a regional rabbi. Since the second half of the 18th century, Koloděje was the seat of the regional rabbinate of Bechyně and later of the rabbinical districts of České Budějovice and Tábor, as well as an important centre of Jewish education.

Remembrance and Local History

The monument to Matěj Kopecký stands in Koloděje nad Lužnicí, where the puppeteer died on 3 July 1847. It depicts a weeping Punch with a torn drum, was unveiled on 6 July 1947, and was created by the sculptor J. Jiříkovský.

Koloděje nad Lužnicí is a stop on the Via Czechia “Stezka středozemím” route, with accommodation, a campsite and a bus stop.
