Hurr: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hurr brings together local history, traces of mining and a varied educational trail. The village thus offers a concentrated insight into the development of Hůry and the landscape around the České Budějovice Basin.

History

The first documented mention of Hůry dates from 1378. At that time, Charles IV pledged the municipality to Jan of Leuchtenburk. Hůry was originally called “Německé Hory”. In earlier times, the inhabitants lived from agriculture.

Educational Trail and Landscape

The Člověk a krajina educational trail leads from Nemanice, a district of České Budějovice, to Rudolfov. It is 6 km long and takes about four hours, including the stops at the information boards. The trail has a total of 13 stations with information boards. The route from Nemanice to Rudolfov is recommended because the texts on the individual boards follow one another in this direction.

One of these stations is located in Hůry and is entitled “Hůry – Hurr – Německé Hory”. The Hůry station covers the history of the village and the influence of mining on the municipality. At the Hůrecká vyhlídka station, the geological conditions of the surrounding area are explained; it also features a photographic panorama of the opposite side of the České Budějovice Basin.

Cycling and Public Transport

Cycle route 1107 runs through Libníč, Hůry, Adamov and Rudolfov. In 2024, there was also a bus connection Jivno–Rudolfov–Hůry–Adamov–Rudolfov–Libníč–Jelmo, with connections to public transport in Rudolfov.

Historical Evidence

The Chapel of St Florian stands on the slope in the village square of Hůry. Its façade bears the year 1865. The former powder magazine in Hůry is also part of the historical surroundings. It was part of a military complex that had existed since the 18th century and supplemented the fortification system of České Budějovice.

Another link to the local history is the Eliášův důl silver mine in Hůry. It was founded under Rudolf II; mining ended in 1909.
