Doudleby lies in a bend of the Malše River. On a hill above the Malše stands the Church of St. Vincent, on the site of an old Slavic hillfort.
Culture and History
The sacristy and presbytery of the Church of St. Vincent are Gothic parts dating from the 14th century; the frescoes in the sacristy date from around 1350. The church’s present flat-roofed form and its tower date from 1708 to 1709.
At the Doudleby hillfort, an embankment several metres high and approximately 100 metres long has been preserved. The opening of the Čapkův Bridge in Doudleby was celebrated on 25 August 1929.
A spring rises at the Chapel of St. Barbara. The chapel was built around 1680 by Cyprian of Velešín, while the stone Pietà in Doudleby dates from 1756.
Festivals and Traditions
The Doudlebské dožínky folklore festival takes place annually and has been held since 1997. It includes a traditional costume procession and afternoon open-air performances at Čapák, including performances by Doudleban and Kovářovan. Masopust in Doudleby includes a rose procession through the village organised by the Doudleban folklore group.
Things to Do
Na kole okolo Doudleb is a cycling tour traditionally held in June, covering approximately 30 to 40 kilometres and particularly suitable for families with children. Okolo Doudleb is a recurring hiking event held on the third Saturday in September, with a route of approximately 15 kilometres through the immediate surroundings of Doudleby.
The Velešín–Roudné cycle route runs from Hamr via Doudleby to Plav. From the Čapkův Bridge, it offers a 200-metre detour to the Church of St. Vincent. Since the 1990s, there has also been a tradition of navigating the Malše called Odemykání Malše.
Landscape
Borovanský vrch (Borovany-Dvorec u Třebče) is a mountain in the surroundings of Doudleby. Trosky, Kleť and Skalka are mountains in the wider regional area around Doudleby.
