Straňany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Doudlebánek children's folklore ensemble is based at Straňany 35 and performs at festivals, community celebrations, and for local audiences.

Culture and History

The documented history of Straňany dates back to a deed from 1360, which mentions Buňata as the local judge of Straňany. A row of houses with gates and simple gables from the original architecture has also been preserved. Doudleban is considered the longest-established South Bohemian folklore ensemble.

Customs and Festivals

The Doudlebské dožínky folklore festival has been held annually in Doudleby since 1997. During the festival, the procession sets off from the Bustov farmstead in Straňany with decorated horse-drawn wagons. In Doudleby, the procession turns and continues to Čapák, where performances take place outdoors.

Velikonoční řehtání is a local folk custom in which younger children first walk through Doudleby and then through Straňany, making noise with rattles.

River and Bridges

The Malše separates Straňany from Doudleby. Čapkův most connects two parts of the municipality of Doudleby on the banks of the Malše. It was built in 1928 and 1929 to replace a wooden footbridge that was frequently damaged by flooding or ice floes during the spring thaw. Čapkův most is classified as an immovable cultural monument.

Cycling

On the Velešín–Roudné cycle route, the route descends in Straňany to the Malše.
