Dačice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Dačice State Chateau was originally built for the Krajíř of Krajk family as a Renaissance chateau at the end of the 16th century. It acquired its present appearance through a Neoclassical reconstruction in the 1830s.

Culture and history

The restored tour route in the Dačice State Chateau authentically conveys the life of the nobility in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Another testament to the town’s history is Starý zámek, a Renaissance palace built between 1572 and 1579, decorated with sgraffito rustication.

The Dačice Municipal Museum and Gallery hold around 30,000 exhibits, including approximately 1,700 paintings, drawings and graphic prints. This is complemented by an extensive collection of graphic works by Max Švabinský. The permanent exhibitions cover the history and ethnography of the Dačicko region, the world’s first sugar cube, historical photographs and postcards of Dačice, and notable figures from Dačicko.

The Spolek přátel muzea v Dačicích association organises programmes for the general public together with the Dačice Municipal Museum and Gallery. These include talks and lectures as part of the Museum Thursdays, as well as local-history walks and excursions. The tower of St Lawrence Church houses a lapidarium and exhibition rooms; the tower also offers views of Dačice and the surrounding area.

Nature and landscape

The chateau park in Dačice covers 10 hectares and includes a pond with an island. A short walk of around 10 minutes leads around the chapel, while a longer circuit of approximately 25 minutes leads around the pond.

The educational trail to natural attractions connects the natural monuments of Toužínské stráně, Moravská Dyje and Dubová stráň, as well as other sites of significant conservation value. It has information boards and, at selected stops, simple shelters with benches and tables.

Toužínské stráně is a 3.07-hectare natural monument with a community of drought-loving steppe-type plants, more than 600 butterfly species, and rare beetle and reptile species. Dubová stráň is a deciduous forest stand on the slopes of the Moravská Dyje valley with numerous thermophilous species and forest communities; rare and endangered animal species occur there.

Trails

The Vydří stezka begins in Dačice at the road bridge over the Dyje and follows a 10 km-long green-marked route along the river from mill to mill. It includes nine stations with information boards and ends in Staré Hobzí. From there, visitors can return to Dačice by bus.

The Stezka hajného Kázka trail provides information about the forest’s plants, fungi, trees, birds, mammals and insects, and offers interactive activities for children. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle. The trip can be extended via part of the educational trail to Kostelní Vydří and back to Dačice around the ponds; it covers 7 km and takes approximately 2 hours on foot.
