Discover Vstiš: Village Square, Ponds and Cycle Paths

Vstiš reveals its distinctive character at the historic village square of Staré Vstiše. More than three dozen former agricultural farmsteads line the square. The houses, arranged around the village square with their gabled ends facing it, form a remarkable urban ensemble. On the southern side of the village square in Staré Vstiše stands a chapel built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1906, which is an important part of this public space. The village square, farm complexes and chapel provide several historical points of reference in the village centre that can be viewed together on a walk.

Water and Landscape

The Dnešický potok flows from south to north through almost the entire cadastral area of Vstiš and the historic part of the municipality before flowing into the Radbuza. Kastlův rybník, one of two ponds in Vstiš, was created in 1670 and has a beach as well as fishing opportunities. Nový vstišský Pond dates from 1966. This means that Vstiš has bodies of water from different periods alongside one another, while the stream forms its own connection through the municipality and the historic part of the village. Culture and History

The enclosed building complex of the old Vachtlův Mill was extensively rebuilt most recently in 1850. A document issued by the abbot of the Vyšehrad Collegiate Chapter from 1293 already mentions Vachtlův Mill. The village character and the history of the mill are therefore closely connected in Vstiš as part of the local narrative, without representing the same chapter of the village's history. The chapel at the village square adds a building from 1906 to these historical points of reference, while the mill, through its earlier documentary mention and later reconstruction, makes a longer period of time visible.

Cycling and Sports

Cycle path C1 leads westwards from Staré Vstiše along a paved, dedicated road past Vachtlův Mill towards Chotěšov. It serves both international long-distance cycling and everyday mixed leisure traffic involving pedestrians and cyclists. The “Prague – Plzeň – Regensburg” cycle route also passes through Vstiš. This makes it possible to distinguish between a locally running connection and a nationally named route as different forms of cycling. The sports complex in Bajerka includes a football pitch and outdoor volleyball courts. Events and Getting There

Vstiš is served by bus services. Bubules is a traditional fairy-tale event in Vstiš held at the end of the summer holidays. The event date adds a time-specific occasion to the year-round topics of the village, water and cycling described above.
