Tužice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Tužice has two clearly recognisable sides: a documented local history and a stone-processing tradition that continues to this day.

History

The oldest officially confirmed written mention of Tužice dates from 1361. A land register from 1600 lists, among others, the Buršovský, Bartíkovský, Deblovský, Janský, Holubovský, Klobasovský, Pruškovský, Tůmovský, Nových, Vlkovských and Krteckýho estates, as well as the three cottages Hudcovská, Ševcovská and Řahovská. The oldest entry in the land register of the Nalžov estate concerns the Tužice inn and dates from 1767.

Quarrying and processing stone are part of Tužice’s historic and present-day tradition. This development began in 1910: the stonemason Matěj Šolar built a house in Tužice and began quarrying stone in the Chvalici forest. The central area of Tužice includes a chapel dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary; the central area is characterised by lime trees.

Geology

The Tužice quarry is an active quarry with blue-grey, medium-grained hornblende-biotite granodiorite. Medium-grained granodiorite in a dark-grey shade is extracted at the Tužice quarry; it is used to produce paving cubes, kerbstones, walling stone, rubble stone, garden elements and crushed stone. The operation focuses exclusively on the rough processing of stone.

The Tužice quarry (Vlčí hora) is registered with the Czech Geological Survey as an interesting geological locality. It is a granodiorite quarry with a wall up to 45 metres high and extraction levels 15 to 18 metres high.

Paths and nature

Tužice’s road network includes roads I/22 and III/02213, as well as a network of local roads. No marked hiking or cycling routes pass through the Tužice planning area. An entry permit is required to access the Tužice quarry by car.

The Hnačov circuit trail runs around the largest recreational pond in the Klatovy District and is also suitable for families with small children. From the centre of Nalžovské Hory, the blue-marked hiking trail leads to Prašivice; the route is approximately 2 km long. The area around Tužice is suitable for collecting mushrooms and wild berries.

Culture

At Velhartice Castle, both the castle and chateau interiors are currently open to visitors.
