Klatovy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Beneath the Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and Saint Ignatius, the history of Klatovy leads into the catacombs: they were built between 1656 and 1676 beneath the church and the Jesuit grammar school as a burial site for members of the Jesuit order and their benefactors. Construction of the Jesuit church began in 1656; Dominik Orsi and Carlo Lurago served as master builders.
Culture
The Klatovy Glass Pavilion is located in the gardens beside the Dr. Hostaš Museum of Local History. It houses more than 500 exhibits and is considered the largest publicly accessible collection of products from the Lötz glassworks in Europe. The museum also features a permanent exhibition entitled “History of the Klatovy Region.”
Since the 19th century, Klatovy has been associated with the tradition of growing carnations. This connection adds a defining theme of local heritage to the town’s cultural and historical sites.
Events
The International Folklore Festival in Klatovy takes place every year on the second weekend of July and features around 20 folklore performances. The festival includes a craft market and a pilgrimage market; admission to the entire event is free.
Nature
The educational trail at the Černá věž is steep, includes many stairs, and has a considerable difference in elevation. It features six stations about the history of Klatovy’s best-known landmark.
The Klatovský vycházkový okruh is a 12 km circular trail that can also be walked in sections. The circuit can be started at any point.
In Hůrka Forest Park, the viewpoint behind St. Martin’s Church and the lookout tower built in place of St. Anne’s Chapel offer beautiful views over part of the Bohemian Forest. The forest park is suitable for walking, relaxation, and sporting activities.
