The Jewish Cemetery of Janovice nad Úhlavou is freely accessible. It contains 269 gravestones, the oldest of which dates from 1705. A memorial commemorates 24 victims of the Shoah.

Culture and History

The Church of St John the Baptist in Janovice nad Úhlavou is originally Early Gothic and was remodelled in the Baroque period. Its presbytery contains frescoes dating from the first third of the 14th century. The cemetery near the church contains the remains of a medieval water castle.

Following its conversion into a fire station, the former synagogue of Janovice nad Úhlavou retains its vaulting, stairwell vault and the arcades of the women’s gallery.

Leisure
