Horská Kvilda: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Between Horská Kvilda and Kvilda lies Jezerní slať, a raised bog covering more than 200 hectares. The observation tower at the entrance to Jezerní slať offers views of almost the entire bog.

Paths through the landscape

The Horská Kvilda–Kvilda footpath runs mostly along the cross-country ski trail, with a few deviations. Wet sections are crossed via boardwalks. It was opened in 2011 on the initiative of the two municipalities.

The starting point for the visitor trail to Jezerní slať is a small car park on the Horská Kvilda–Kvilda road with an unpaved surface.

Winter and cross-country skiing

The cross-country ski trails around Horská Kvilda are machine-groomed from 15 December to 31 March when there is sufficient snow cover. The cross-country ski trail system is marked with wooden signposts bearing a skier symbol or with the standard KČT marking.

History and townscape

The Zlatá stezka passed through Horská Kvilda. It was a medieval trade and salt route from Passau to Kašperské Hory. Some sections are still visible, mostly as hollow ways.

Before the Second World War, the Šumava log cabin was the predominant building type in the original development of Horská Kvilda.
